At Independent Steps, our aim is to assist our families to feel supported, empowered and encouraged.
Independent Steps works closely with all of the essential individuals in your child's life to ensure that we are providing the best service for your child. Therefore, we strive to work collaboratively with your family, teachers and other health care professionals that are involved in your child's team.

ABOUT US
Melissa is an Occupational Therapist with 10 years experience in paediatric Occupational Therapy. Melissa has worked in a range of settings including early intervention, school's and in private practice. Melissa has also worked in public mental health, working with adults.
When Melissa isn't working, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family as well as her Swiss Shepherd, Jasper and her partner.
REFERRALS AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Independent Steps is a registered provided under the NDIS. Contact us if you have any questions about accessing the NDIS for your child.
Independent Steps receive referrals from a wide range of sources including:

- Physiotherapists
- Classroom teachers, education support staff and counsellors

Assessment
To ensure that we provide the best care and support to your child, it is important to determine their current skills and strengths so that we can collaboratively establish future goals and plans.
We will discuss with you what assessment may be most appropriate for your child. This may involve a range of standardized and non-standerdised assessments and clinical observations.

Intervention
Therapy sessions are 50 minutes long. Depending on your child’s treatment plan, we can determine together the frequency of sessions. Goals are set in collaboration with Independent Steps and your family. At Independent Steps we strive to develop independence for your child so that they can succeed in all that they do.
